Welcome readers
Today I am interviewing N. Taylor author of The Desire to Touch & The Desire to Love
Hello Miss Taylor and welcome to What Nikki Read, thank you very much to agreeing to this interview. I just wanted to ask straight off, have you been amazed by the reception of your debut novels?
Hi, Thank you very much for having me. I have to say I have been utterly shocked by the initial reaction, I hoped it would be liked but I’m so humbled by everyone’s kind words and their encouragement.
What made you write these novels, what was your inspiration?
I had read The Fifty Shades Trilogy and The Crossfire Trilogy as well as many more and I fell in love with the books. Years ago I had a fantasy of what it would be like to be that girl that was adored by someone famous. Then what it would feel like to have that relationship that makes you feel so special nothing else matters. Eventually I stopped fantasising and wrote it all down.
What are you working on at the minute?
I’m currently working on a novel called Play me Away.
What’s it about?
It’s about a young woman who lives with her boyfriend of 8 years, they have a mortgage together but she feels that is all that binds them. He has a big gambling problem and his habits land her in big trouble – she is then offered a way out that she doesn't want to take but then things start to happen and she wants more.
What genre are your books?
Adult romantic fiction
Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book?
The female character – Ellie Jones – I’m not sure, maybe Kayley Cuoco or Hayden Panettiere. Trey Thomas would be Chris Pine or Paul walker – or very much alike.
How much research do you do?
A lot! Sometimes I have sleepless nights because I’m worried about how certain things should happen – like is it possible to be locked inside a car? To my relief it is very much a possibility.
When did you decide to become a writer?
I started The Desire to Touch last May 2012, so May 2012.
What made you decide to sit down and actually start something?
I’d had dreams about certain sections of the book and I jotted them down. I sent the first few chapters to my friends and they were hooked so I continued writing the stories because they said I couldn’t leave it unfinished.
Do you write every day, 5 days a week or as and when?
I write nearly every evening, unless the TV is on and I get distracted.
Do you aim for a set amount of words/pages per day?
I try to reach 3,000. Sometimes I write 6,000 sometimes only 100.
Where do your ideas come from and do you work to a plot or just see where it goes?
Some of the things are experiences that myself or friends have actually been through, I just elaborate on them and others I use my vivid imagination. I start with a plot for the basis and then I see where the story goes.
What book/s are you reading at present?
Sylvia Day Entwined with you
Do you proofread/edit all your own books or do you get someone to do that for you?
I have some very supportive friends and family that go over it for me – Many thanks you guys!
How are you publishing this book and why?
I’m a very impatient and I wanted to gauge people’s reactions straight away, I didn’t want to have to wait 6-12 weeks to hear back from agents or publishers. So I self-published on the Kindle.
Do you have any advice for other authors on how to market their books?
Social Media - utilizing friends and family to help get your name around is a good place to start. Goodreads is another place to get known.
What are your thoughts on good/bad reviews?
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and books are down to personal taste. But if a bad review is left that may give spoilers of a book – that grinds my gears!
Where can you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
Probably exactly where I am now, just maybe £14.48 richer.
What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Keep writing, if your characters are good they will create their own stories and endings.
Have you any plans to do more books in The Desire to range?
Yes I have, there are a few I am thinking of but that will be once I have finished the projects I am working on at the moment.
Well thank you very much for answering my questions and taking the time to do this interview.
